When Faux Flowers Are A Good Idea

Every bride wants beautiful flowers on her wedding day! So what’s a girl to do when those Cafe Au Lait Dahlias are DOA because, yes, they are that delicate and don’t last long out of water. Love the idea of lush peonies? I hope you’re getting married in May! Outdoor wedding? Yikes! Hydrangeas and heat do not get along! Planning on taking pics a few hours before the actual ceremony or in between the ceremony & reception? It’s unlikely your bouquets can withstand all of that action and still look picture perfect for your walk down the aisle. The good news is that silk flowers have come a long way. You’ll have a tough time guessing which blooms are the real deal and which one are faux.  So when is it best to make the shift? Here’s our guide to when faux flowers are a good idea.

1. You can’t beat the heat! Whether you’re a summer bride, live in a warm climate or you’re having an outdoor wedding, heat is a big factor when selecting the right flowers. Sometimes Faux is the way to go. Nothing is worse then a floppy, deflated hydrangea. A faux bouquet or centerpiece is a sure fire way to keep your flowers looking picture perfect for the duration of your wedding from start to finish.

2. Out of Season, Out of Luck! Dahlias, Peonies & Poppies oh my! There are certain blooms that always come up when talking flowers and unfortunately these varieties are extremely seasonal and often unpredictable. Same goes for a lot of unique greens, berries and things like Moonglow Pepper Chilis, Privet Berries and Scabiosa Pods. Opting to use a few faux stems of these blooms mixed in with fresh flowers is a great way to get the look you want, no matter what the time of year.

3. Extended Portrait Sessions. If you’re planning on taking photos a few hours before the ceremony or for a few hours in-between the ceremony and reception, chances are your bouquets and boutonnières are not going to go the distance. There is nothing worse than a bride and her bridesmaids walking down the aisle or into the reception with dead bouquets. The same goes for floral crowns and floral hair pieces.  Fresh blooms do not last long out of water and they are also extremely heavy and difficult to secure into your hair for a long period of time. As for the guys, they are known to be less than gentle with their flowers, and are often taking their jackets on and off and tossing them about. Faux blooms are the way to go.

Tips For Keeping Kids Entertained At Your Wedding

It’s inevitable that there will be a few little ones running rampant around your wedding reception. The key to keeping them happy and out of trouble is keeping them entertained. Having a designated kids table or space that is packed with things to do is the perfect way to ensure the little ones are well cared for and the parents can enjoy the evening. Here are our tips for creating the perfect kids night out.

1. Kids Table - Creating a themed kids table will add to the excitement of attending the wedding for little ones. The theme could be anything from Disney to Summer fun. Decorate the table to match your theme and provide lots of activities for both the boys and girls. Keep them busy with games, coloring books, arts and crafts and food!

2. Entertainment - Ask the venue if there is a nearby room or space to have entertainment for the kids. Having a balloon artist or face painter is a great way to break up the night, especially if you have lots of kids attending. You can also stage a mini movie theater so the children can crash and enjoy a movie or fall asleep until the party ends.

3. Supervision - Now that you’ve got a full evening planned, you will most definitely need supervision. This could come in the form of hired babysitters or a task delegated to teenage relatives. Having 2 supervisors is best so there is always one to keep an eye on the children and the other one to go and hunt down a parent if needed.

Pets At Weddings

Considering having your pooch at your big day? Will Rover be a part of the ceremony? Walk down the aisle? Party all night long? Here are some things to consider before you say I do to bringing your doggie to your wedding!

1. First, find out if your venue allow pets. Typically B&B’s, Farm Type Venues and Outdoor Estates will say ok to your four legged friend being on the property.

2. If your venue is on board, consider how easy it will be to keep your pooch contained, out of trouble and have easy access to grassy areas for potty breaks.

3. Even though this is your big day, you have to take your guests into consideration. Does anyone have a severe pet allergy or aversion to dogs? This can be a deal breaker for some people.

4. Since you and your significant other will be a bit busy, have a designated doggie sitter to take the reins. You’ll need someone to make sure your best bud gets food, water and taken out.

5. Is your dog a veteran family member that knows how to chill? Having a dog jumping all over you and your guests, barking and attacking the buffet may not be appropriate for this setting.

6. If you’re on the fence about your fur baby being at the wedding, consider these options. Have someone at the ceremony to oversee the dogs care and promptly following your I do’s return them to the room. It’s helpful if you’re staying on the property where the wedding is taking place. If you decide to leave your dog home for the I do’s, consider doing your engagement shoot with your pet to relieve the added stress of having them at the actual wedding.
